Country’s noted Tabla artist Pandit Madan Gopal Das passed away at his residence in Bangladesh capital Dhaka's Narinda area on Sunday morning at the age of 85.
Madan breathed his last at around 6.55 am, family members said. He is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives and admirers.
Madan Gopal Das was cremated at the city’s Postogola cremation ground in the evening.
He was born on September 7, 1939 in Dhaka. Bijoy Chandra Das and Basna Rani Das are his parents.
He served as the artist of special convenience at the BTV and guest instructor of Chayanot, Nazrul Academy, Shilpakala Academy and University of Dhaka.
He received several awards from home and abroad including the President Award and Silpakala Padak.
He was one of the founders of Chhayanaut. He received lifetime accolade from Chhayanaut.
