Football is the game at hand, and Tabith Awal has thrown his hat into the ring for the presidency of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF). The former footballer and ex-vice president of the federation made a bold statement during a bustling press conference on Monday, indicating his intention to bring unexpected changes to the sport.
The role of BFF President is pivotal, as it shapes the future of football in Bangladesh. When questioned about his plans if elected, Tabith intriguingly stated, "If I become president, there will be surprises on the pitch." He conveyed his determination to propel football forward in the country.
The BFF elections are heating up, with Tarfdar Ruhul Amin already having declared his candidacy for the presidency, ahead of the elections set for October 26.
Tabith Awal, who served as vice president of the BFF in 2012 and 2016, is now eyeing the top position. Reflecting on his previous electoral experiences, he remarked, "I have participated in the last three elections. This time, I am vying for the presidency. I am confident of victory."
He mentioned that the election manifesto would be disclosed at a later stage. Once the list of councillors is finalised and the interest of other candidates is assessed, a panel will be formed. The manifesto will be developed with contributions from the panel, as several formalities are yet to be completed. "We need to identify who is interested in the election, then assemble a panel and draft a manifesto based on their input," he elaborated.
