Tabith Awal collected the nomination form for the post of President of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) on Thursday.
Shakhawat Bhuiya Shaheen, General Secretary (GS) of Nofel Sporting Club, collected the nomination paper on behalf Tabith at BFF Bhavan for the upcoming Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) elections, scheduled for October 26.
The BFF polls appears like a festival and the election fever grips the fans and concerned peoples. The atmosphere would have been more colorful if the presidential candidate Tabith himself had come and submitted. Tabith, former vice-president of the BFF did not come to collect the nomination paper when about the reason of absence, his representative Shaheen said, “He is the president of Nofel Sporting Club and I am the GS of the club. He is my president. I collected his form as the official head.” Tabith, the former football player, who played in the top fight of domestic soccer and then turned into business magnate, is also associated with a political party.
The nomination form for the presidential post cost taka one lakh. Tabith Awal handed a pay order with the account branch of BFF after collecting the nomination paper for the post of president on the day.
The distribution of nomination will continue until 5 p.m. on Saturday when all activities are closed for today (Friday).
Nominations were filed on October 13 and 14 with a break of one day even if he is absent at the time of acceptance, Tabith will come in person to submit the nomination, “even if he does not come on Thursday, he will come at the time of submitting the nomination,” said Shaheen. Shaheen himself took the membership form on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the first day of the nomination distribution saw a total of 25 nominations being sold, with Imrul Hasan, the incumbent BFF vice-president buying the nomination for senior vice-president and Nasser Shahrear Zahedee, chairman of Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd and founding president of Shamsul Huda Football Academy in Jashore, collected nomination for the post of vice-president, former footballer Iqbal Hossain, Brothers official Sabbir Rahman Arif, and K-Sports CEO Fahad Karim buying the nominations on the first day. Apart from Imrul Hasan and Tabith Awal, six incumbent BFF executive members - Mahfuza Akter Kiran, Satyajit Das Rupu, Zakir Hossain Chowdhury, Amer Khan, Imteaz Hamid Sabuj, and Tipu Sultan were notable among the 20 nomination papers sold for executive members. Atotal of 133 delegates cast their votes to elect a 21-member BFF executive committee.
