Sylhet-Silchar festival opens new door of ties with Assam

The three-day 'Sylhet-Silchar festival' started on Friday in the town of Silchar in the northeastern Indian state of Assam. Through this festival, Sylhet and the whole country have opened new doors of relations. As a result, both Bangladesh and India will benefit.

The festival will begin on the afternoon of December 2 at the police playground in Silchar town and will end on the afternoon of December 4. Foreign Minister of Bangladesh. Six ministers, twelve MPs, educationists, and industrialists are going to Silchar under the leadership of A K Abdul Momen. It is expected that a new horizon of friendship will be created at this festival.

On the other hand, the Chief Ministers of Assam, Manipur, and Meghalaya along with representatives of the Central Government from Delhi will be present at this festival.

Those concerned also said that this is the first step of opening the new door of Dhaka's relationship with Assam.

Meanwhile, dignitaries from Sylhet have already arrived in India to participate in the three-day festival organized by the India Foundation of New Delhi and the Bangladesh Foundation for Regional Studies with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Prominent people including public representatives, politicians, and journalists of the region have received invitations to participate in the 'Sylhet-Silchar Festival' under the supervision of the Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The invitees are expected to reach Silchar by Friday morning.

Close communication with Silchar city of Assam through the road border of Sylhet city. This friendship festival is being organized to celebrate 75 years of India's independence and 50 years of Bangladesh's independence. On the one hand, the indigenous culture of the two regions will be highlighted, on the other hand, prominent people from the two countries will participate in the discussion. The commercial potential will be explored in the areas of health, education, tourism, and digital infrastructure.

Sources of Sylhet Sylhet Chamber in this regard said that this festival has been organized by the initiative of Dr Rajdeep Roy, Member of Parliament of Silchar, Assam. As a result of this festival, the connectivity of our capital including Sylhet will increase with the northeastern region of India. Speed will come in business and investment.

It is known that during the Sylhet-Silchar festival, at least three chief ministers will have a courtesy meeting with some ministers including the foreign minister of Bangladesh, and various issues of relations will be discussed. The seven states of the northeastern region include Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh.

Among these, Assam, and Meghalaya have a large border with the greater Sylhet division. Before 1947, Assam and Sylhet were together. The two cities were separated after partition. Currently, Dhaka and Delhi governments want to create new areas of business and investment along with increasing connectivity between these two cities.

According to related sources, the Silchar-Sylhet Festival will be held on December 2, 3, and 4 in Silchar, the pioneer of the language movement. The Assam government is playing an important role in the three-day festival organized by the India Foundation of New Delhi and the Bangladesh Foundation for Regional Studies with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of India.
