A delegation of 30 students from Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) met with the Vice-Chancellor on Monday to present eight demands, including the resignation of the proctor and registrar. The meeting took place at the administrative building around 12:30 PM, attended by several faculty members.
The students expressed that they would continue their movement if their demands were not met. This protest follows a clash on October 24, involving students from the Chhatra Dal and Chhatra League during an admission examination. In response, the university administration suspended classes and exams starting October 27, locking down the administrative building and all faculties.
The students’ eight-point demand list includes: 1. Resignation of the proctor, registrar, and public relations officer, along with a public apology; 2. Enhanced security on campus; 3. A permanent ban on all political activities, ensuring punishment for those participating under political banners; 4. A thorough investigation into the October 24 clash, with swift action against those responsible; 5. Retraction of false media statements, replaced with accurate information; 6. Implementation of anonymous grading and an opportunity to retake failed subjects within one month of results; the year drop system should be cancelled for those failing twice in a subject; 7. Establishment of a 40-mark passing threshold for exams, in line with other agricultural universities; and 8. The university health care centre should operate 24/7.
