Saidur Rahman Patel one of the architects in forming the Swadhin Bangla Football Team during the Liberation War in 1971, passed away on Tuesday.
Patel was 75, had been battling cancer for last one year, leaves behind a son, a daughter, and many well-wishers who mourn his death.
Patel, former freedom fighter along with some of his fellow friends with the aim of generating public support for Bangladesh, formed the Swadhin Bangla Football Team when he also directly participated in the Liberation War.
Kazi Mohammed Salahuddin, president of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), who was also one of Patel’s teammate in the Swadhin Bangla Football Team, expressed is deep condolence at the death of Patel.
