The Department of Forestry and Environmental Science (FES) of Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) has banned writing theses, research projects and similar scripts using Internet-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools.
Head of the Forestry & Environmental Science dept. Dr. Rumel Ahmed on Tuesday confirmed the matter to the Daily Bangladesh Post.
He said, is was decided in a departmental meeting. Using AI tools for writing thesis, Research Project and similar scripts is a criminal offence. The editor's paper will be rejected and sent to the Disciplinary Committee to take the necessary action. Plagiarism will be checked by Turnitin tool and will be accepted up to a maximum of 30% plagiarism.
He also said that all concerned were requested to write the paper following the proper rules. And if someone writes using AI tools in this illegal process, it will be considered as a criminal activity. But if one wants to know details about his research then he can gain knowledge using AI tools. But the information provided from all those sources cannot be fully utilized.
SUST research center director Prof Dr. SM Saiful Islam said, we have not given any restrictions on AI tools yet. However, we have a maximum acceptance of 30% on plagiarism. If more pleasures are found in someone's paper, action will be taken against him as per appropriate rules.
