Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has been recognized as a key innovation hub in the country. This announcement was made by Vice-Chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed during the key handover ceremony of the Innovation Hub on Saturday.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of this opportunity for students. He believes the Innovation Hub will help students develop entrepreneurial skills and advance the university’s reputation. The keys to the Innovation Hub were handed over by Abdul Fatah Baligur Rahman, the Project Director of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority.
The event began with a welcome speech from Professor Farhad Rabbi of the CSE department, who is the focal point of the Innovation Hub. He mentioned that the first cohort has been completed successfully. With the launch of the hub, he expects increased participation from students in the second cohort and future ones.
Mr. Latiful Khabir, the National Coordinator of the Innovation Hub, spoke about its overall vision and goals. Professor Dr. Md. Zahirul Islam, Director of IICT, highlighted that many students at the university have innovative ideas but lack the training and support to become entrepreneurs. The Innovation Hub aims to provide them with training, funding, and connections to national investors and patent opportunities.
ANM Shafiqul Islam, an expert from Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, explained how innovative ideas can be turned into business ventures.
After the program, the first session of startup mentoring was held for students selected in the second cohort. Abdul Mateen, Chief Strategic Officer of Prava Health, shared insights on applying innovative ideas in real life. Mehdi Hasan, University Manager of Innovation Hub, and Sadman Hafiz, Campus Manager of SUST Innovation Hub, supported the session.
