An automatic weather station is to enable measurements from remote areas. An AWS will typically consist of a weather-proof enclosure containing the data logger, rechargeable battery, telemetry (optional) and the meteorological sensors with an attached solar panel or wind turbine and mounted upon a mast. To get better results and experience, an automatic weather station was inaugurated in a joint venture between Japan and Bangladesh organized by the Department of Geography and Environment of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology(SUST).
On Tuesday, the inauguration ceremony was held at noon in the conference room of the IQAC office. In the speech of the chief guest in the opening ceremony, Pro Vice-Chancellor of SUST Prof. Md. Kabir Hossain said that weather and climate are very important issues in today's world. A measuring system of weather and climate is essential to dealing with natural calamities. Today is a new historic day for SUST. Because today the automatic weather station is going to be installed at the university. We will all benefit from it.
The director of the university's research center, Professor Dr. Saiful islam, Professor of Kagawa University of Japan Taru Tera and JICA expert Dr. Morimasa Tsuda attended the event as a special guest that time. The opening ceremony was presided over by the head of the department of geography Dr. Md. Anwarul Islam was conducted by Assistant Professor of GEE Shahnaz Shimul.
