To promote equality and development in the Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT), the Adviser for CHT Affairs, Suprodeep Chakma, said that the region will be restored to an environment free from discrimination, similar to the rest of the country.

He made these remarks as the chief guest during a meeting with the Rangamati administration, civil society members, journalists, and students at the Rangamati Deputy Commissioner's Office on Saturday.

He said that the past conflicts in the CHT must be left behind to focus on improving the lives and livelihoods of the people. By avoiding irregularities and corruption, the development of the region would be based on the consensus of all stakeholders.

“We aim to establish good governance in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Our focus will be on livelihood development across the three districts. We are united and will remain united. We wish to play an appropriate role in maintaining peace and order in the area. Together, we will work for the development of the country, embracing all communities with brotherly love,” he added.

He further stated that the current interim government is working with impartiality in every aspect. The inclusion of two student representatives from the anti-discrimination student movement in each of the Hill District Councils is a step aimed at ensuring fair representation and addressing local concerns.

He also expressed his appreciation, on behalf of the interim government, for the collective efforts of all, regardless of political affiliation, in supporting those affected by the recent devastating floods. He praised the initiative as a noble gesture that transcends party lines and underscores the spirit of national unity.

The meeting was presided over by Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Khan. Other notable attendees included Joint Secretary of the Ministry of CHT Affairs, Kangkan Chakma, Additional Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam, former President of Rangamati Press Club Sunil Kanti Dey, former member of the Bangladesh Human Rights Organisation Nirupa Dewan, and Banchita Chakma.
