The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has reopened the 'Sunvee's by Toni' showroom in Gulshan, owned by entrepreneur Rubiat Fatima Tony, following a High Court order.
On Wednesday at around 10 am, a team led by Bikash Chandra Das and Deputy Director of DNCRP's Dhaka divisional office went to Police Plaza and reopened the showroom.
This action came after a High Court bench, comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon, ordered the showroom's reopening on Monday. Despite the court order, DNCRP did not permit the showroom to open until Tuesday afternoon, prompting Tony's lawyers to seek further court intervention. The court then mandated the showroom be reopened within 24 hours.
DNCRP announced in a press release that following the court's directive, 'Sunvee's by Toni' would reopen at 10 am on Wednesday.
Rubiat Fatima Tony had previously filed a writ on May 21, alleging harassment. On May 27, the High Court issued a ruling questioning the legality of sealing the 'Sunvee's by Toni' showroom and required a response within 10 days.
It is worth noting that on May 12, a team led by DNCRP Assistant Director Jabbar Mondal conducted a raid on the main 'Sunvee's by Tony' showroom. Subsequently, the showroom was fined Tk 50,000 and Tk 2 lakh for two separate offenses on May 14.
