Md Nur Uddin alias Selim (38) is a resident of Hasannagar area of Sunamganj municipal city.

He was sentenced to one year in a drug case.

But the court did not send him to jail but ordered him to be sentenced him to house arrest subject to conditions under the supervision of a probation officer.

As Nur Uddin's sentence expired on Thursday, the court was happy with him and gave him three tree saplings.

Sunamganj Judicial Magistrate Shubhdeep Pal gave the gift on Thursday. He was convicted under the Probation of Offenders Ordinance 1960.

According to court sources, there was a case against Nur Uddin under the Narcotics Control Act.

In this case, on April 10 last year, the court sentenced him to one year imprisonment. But he was not sent to jail. The judge asked the district probation officer Shah Md Shafiur Rahman to correct him and ordered the punishment from his home under his supervision. The person abided by all the conditions prescribed for a whole year in accordance with the rules.

His sentence ended on April 10 this year. But due to the corona situation, the regular activities of the court were closed.

As a result, the probation officer applied to the virtual court for the final release of the accused.

Following the hearing of the appeal, the judge finally released Nur Uddin on Thursday.

At the same time, gifts were given for planting three fruit, forest and medicinal plants through the probation officer.

After being released Md Nur Uddin said, “I am a poor man. I run my family by doing electrical work. When I went to jail, the rest of the family had to go without food.

I was saved from jail by the mercy of the court. I have observed every order of the court this one year.

I will never take drugs or commit any crime again.”
