Protesting students waved red cards at Rampura Bridge against corruption and indiscipline on the road on Saturday.

Later, they announced a new programme according to which students will form human chains across the country today (Sunday) and bring out symbolic funeral procession in Dhaka's Shahbagh area demanding safe roads.

Students reached Rampura Bridge with a procession around 12 pm on Saturday. At the end of the red card display programme, they announced the new programme.

The agitating students said, “We will take out a procession with a symbolic corpses from Shahbagh tomorrow in support of our 9-point demand. Besides, students across the country will form peaceful human chains.”

The students also warned that a stronger movement will be launched across the country on December 10 if these 9-point demand were not met within this time.

Earlier, students of several educational institutions took position on the sidewalk near Rampura Bridge around 11am on Saturday. Later, they showed red cards in protest against irregularities and corruption on the roads.

However, they were not seen blocking roads and checking vehicle licenses. Law enforcement agencies were present at the scene on

that time.

Students have been protesting in the capital for several days demanding safer roads and half fare in public transports.

As part of the ongoing movement, they have been gathering in the Rampura Bridge area for

several days.

However, the Transport Owners' Association made announcement to accept half fare demand in buses only in the capital in the wake of the students’ movement.
