On Wednesday, students of Badda Alatunnessa Higher Secondary School and College staged a protest, demanding the reduction of tuition and examination fees. The students put forward a 16-point demand, with the main issue being the rising costs of education at their school.
At around 11am, students gathered at the school gate and marched through the area, blocking the road in front of the school. They expressed their frustration with the continuous fee increases. A tenth grader, said, "Our school keeps raising fees every year, and it’s becoming too much for many families. Ninth graders are paying Tk1,300, and tenth graders now have to pay Tk1,400."
Another student, pointed out the poor condition of the school's facilities. "The lab and library are getting worse, but the fees keep going up," she said. "We will not stop protesting until our demands are met."
The headmaster, Zulfiqur Hossain, assured the students that a meeting would take place at the deputy commissioner's office to discuss their concerns. He promised that a decision would be made after hearing from student representatives. Teachers at the school, like Kanak, said that while they did not take a position on the students' demands, they believed the issue should be resolved through discussions between the school administration and the students.
After police intervention, the students moved their protest to a side road, where they continued their sit-in, determined to achieve their demands.
