The protesting students of Government Titumir College declared a "College Shutdown" programme for an indefinite period of time.

They cleared the roads in Mohakhali at around 9:30pm after pressing forth their demand to form a commission to upgrade their institution to a university.

As part of this programme, the students said they would not participate in any classes or exams. They also announced a blockade on Tuesday.

Earlier in the evening (18 November), just two and a half hours after clearing the roads and ending a four-hour blockade in the afternoon, the students occupied the road in front of the college around 6:30pm, reports Prothom Alo.

Protesters stated that they cleared the road around 4:00pm after a 12-member delegation went to the secretariat for discussions.

Following the discussion, they said the delegation members announced a hunger strike in front of the Secretariat. Upon hearing this, other students blocked the road in Mohakhali again.

Shafayet Shafiq, a student from the Political Science Department of Titumir College, said that the student representatives from Titumir College had met with Advisers Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud. However, no decision was reached.

The advisers stated that any actions regarding the matter would be announced in a statement.

Protesters said with no clarity on the government's decision, the students are left in uncertainty until the announcement is made. Therefore, they blocked the road demanding an immediate statement on the matter.

Earlier in the day, Nearly 1,000 students brought out a procession from the college campus at around 11:30am. From there, they came and positioned themselves at the level crossing and the roads soon. Later, they cleared the road around 4:00pm.

During the blockade, the students allegedly attacked a train, leaving many passengers injured.

Traffic movement was disrupted throughout the area and its impact could be felt long after the demonstrations had ended.

Netizens were infuriated when pictures and news on the attack on a train broke.
