The students of seven College have called for transforming their institutions into autonomous public universities to address ongoing challenges and inequalities. This demand was made during a press conference held at Dhaka College Auditorium on Sunday afternoon, attended by general students.

Abdur Rahman, a student of Dhaka College, listed 30 major problems faced by the students of the seven affiliated colleges. These include a lack of institutional identity, insufficient classrooms, lack of teachers, delayed exam results, and overcrowding. He mentioned that while Dhaka University handles academic matters, the Ministry of Education takes care of administrative issues. As a result, the students of these colleges remain stuck in an unresolved situation.

Abdur Rahman also criticized the management of the education system, stating that only 3 to 4 teachers are often assigned to manage entire university-level programs, which negatively impacts the quality of education. He further mentioned that the exam schedules are often delayed, making it difficult for students to get timely assessments.

He raised concerns about the funds collected by Dhaka University, saying that crores of takas are taken from the seven colleges but not used for their development. Additionally, being affiliated colleges, students face obstacles in pursuing higher education opportunities.

To resolve these issues, the students are demanding that the seven colleges be made autonomous public universities with a fair education system. Abdur Rahman announced that within five working days, they will submit a memorandum to the Ministry of Education, urging the formation of a commission to draft a plan for their independence. The students are hopeful that the Ministry and Education Advisor will work together to fulfill their demands.
