Students manage traffic on roads in Ishwardi

Students of different educational institutions, including madrasas, are controlling traffic on roadsin Ishwardi upazila of Pabna in the absence of traffic policemen.

As the traffic police is inactiveafter the resignation of the government in the face of anti-discrimination student movement, the students were seen performing the duties ignoring the sun and rain at the important intersections of the main road in Ishwardi upazila from Tuesday to Thursday.  At the same time, they are also doing the work of cleaning garbage from the roads. Students held a joyous procession in the city following Sheikh Hasina's resignation. As the tense situation still prevailsin the upazila headquarters, the policemen are also inactive. Even if the business is opened, sales are low due to lack of presence of people. Due to this, the shops are closing before evening. The teachers said the attendance is very low despite the opening of educational institutions. However, the traffic of rickshaws, autorickshaws and CNG-run vehicles on the road is normal. Students are seen working to decongest the roads in some important areas, including Alhaj intersection, Post Office intersection, Railway Gate intersection, Gate No. 1 of Bazar and Chand Ali Junction. The students said the traffic jam is being created in the absence of traffic police. For this reason, they are working to decongest traffic at important junctions in the upazila headquarters. Apart from this, students painted Alpana on Ishwardi-Pabna road of the city. Tasnim Mahbub, a student of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), said, "Our victory has been achieved at the cost of many lives. Now our goal is discrimination free Bangladesh. That's why we are cleaning the city and working to decongest the roads. Not only in Ishwardi, students across the country have voluntarily joined this work.”
