The appointment of Prof. Nizam Ahmed Khan as the new vice-chancellor of Dhaka University has triggered mixed reactions among the students of the country’s leading institution for higher studies.
Some students are critical of the appointment of Prof. Nizam Ahmed as their new vice-chancellor, saying he has affiliation with a political party while some are happy with the decision.
Lauding the appointment Prof. Nizam Ahmed as the new VC of Dhaka University, a group of students expressed the hope that he will transform the DU into a best place for academic excellence.
A Facebook survey of the Dhaka University Students Association, shows that at least 98 percent of students, including ex-students, are satisfied with the appointment of Prof. Nizam as new VC.
AB Jubair, a student of the Islamic Studies Department at Du, said, “After the appointment of the new VC, some people are saying that he (Prof. Nizam) is a political person associated Jamaat-e-Islam politics, and some are calling him non-political person. However, his deeds will determine whether he is praiseworthy or not.”
Armanul Haque, a student of the International Relations Department, said, “I can't make any comment about our new VC as I didn't know him before. If he can ensure residential facilities or all students, food security and a proper academic environment, he will be a good VC.”
Md. Nazim, a student of Organisation Strategy and Leadership Department, said, “We have got a perfect man as VC who has past experience in the post. Besides, his profile says that he is a sound academics. So, we hope that he will do something good for this university.”
