In the absence of police officers on Tuesday, students have stepped up as volunteers to manage traffic and ensure security in Dhaka and Bogura.
In Dhaka, students have been seen controlling traffic at key intersections, including Mirpur-2, Mirpur-10, Agargaon, Bijoy Sarani, and Bangla Motor. They’ve been directing vehicles and preventing wrong-way driving and illegal parking in the areas.
Additionally, around 200 students have been deployed to provide security at Mirpur Police Station, local churches, and temples, especially after a recent attack that left the police station in ruins. The students have also discovered and secured abandoned weapons and explosives, requesting military assistance to manage these items.
In Bogura, the situation is similarly critical. Students and community members are managing traffic and addressing congestion following the destruction of the Sadar Police Station, Sadar outpost, and the local traffic police office by arsonists. The local police have been relocated to Bogura Police Lines for their safety.
Iftekhar Noor Pritam, an eleventh-grade student from Bogura Government Azizul Haque College, reported that students took over traffic management early this morning after the police were evacuated.
These student-led efforts come in response to widespread disruptions and are crucial in maintaining order and security in the affected areas.
