Awami League Joint General Secretary Abdur Rahman on Monday said the party had initiated to reconstitute the Awami League through strengthening it from the grassroots level. Awami League got support of professionals like business community, farmers, labourers, students and teachers from all walks of life. “They voted for us extensively,” he added.
Abdur Rahman was addressing as the chief guest at an special extended meeting of Narail district unit of the ruling party at Chitra Resort.
Presided over by District AL president Advocate Subash Chandra Bose, AL presidium member Pijush Kanti Bhattacharjee inaugurated the extended meeting.
The meeting was addressed, among others, by AL Organizing Secretary and Whip of Bangladesh parliament Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan, MP, Labour Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, Central Executive Committee Member SM Kamal Hossain, Advocate Amirul Islam and Parvin Zaman Kalpana.
In his speech, Abdur Rahman said that popularity of Awami League-led government has increased after coming to power. “People of all professions and classes immensely supported us in the last general election which had never been seen in the past,” he said.
He further said, “Our aim is to build the Bangladesh Awami League as a stronger party.” The people boycotted the BNP because they had been resorting to corruption, terrorism, militancy and nepotism while in power, he added.
The AL leader announced that the Narail district Awami League conference will be held on September 25 next, adding that before that, there will be held an another conference of ward, union, upazila unit aiming to organize the party from grassroots level.
Lawmaker Kabirul Haque Mukti, District Awami League General Secretary and Sadar upazila chairman Nizam Uddin Khan Nilu, organizing secretary of district AL and municipality mayor Jahangir Biswas,Narail sadar upazila AL president Achin Kumar Chakrabarty,Lohagora Upazila AL president and Upazila Chairman Abdul Hannan Runu,AL leader Rashedul Basher Dollar, Kalia Upazila AL secretary and Upazila Chairman Krisnopado Ghos among others addressed the meeting. Former president of BCL district committee Hafiz Khan Milon conducted the meeting.
