Country's raw hide traders and tanners on Sunday stressed need to strengthen storage facilities at the marginal level across the country including Dhaka for proper preservation of raw hides, mainly collected during the Eid-ul-adha.

"Removing the crisis of preserving raw hides could be possible easily by repairing and modernising the unused cold storages lying in different parts of the country. This will help immensely in preserving the raw hides", they said.

The sector insiders made the remarks while addressing the meeting of the FBCCI standing committee on Hide and Skin, Leather, Leather Goods and Artificial Leather, held at the FBCCI head office, Matijheel in the capital.

Chairman of the committee, also former FBCCI Director Shahin Ahmed presided over the meeting. Director-in-Charge of the committee and FBCCI Director Md Saiful Islam, FBCCI First Vice President Amin Helaly also spoke on the occasion.

Helaly urged the government take measures to strengthen storage system at every district to properly preserve hides and skins collected from across the country mainly during the festivals.

"Not only for the export market, but compliance have to be ensured at every level in producing goods for our own use, besides, stress to be laid upon capacity building in the countrys' emerging leather industry", Helaly added.
