Stocks extend losing streak

Stocks on Tuesday extended its losing streak as the risk-averse investors preferred to book profit on quick-gaining shares.

DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), closed the day with 64.32 points down and settled at 5,867.96 points. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 19.50 points to finish at 2,134.04 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) closed the day with 15.45 points down to close at 1,255.36.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Taka 10,150.13 million on the premier bourse, which was Taka 11,430.23 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 399 issues traded, 269 closed lower, 107 remained higher and 23 others remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

BRACBANK became the most-traded stock, followed by SQURPHARMA, UNILEVERCL, RENATA and IFIC.

NATLIFEINS was the day's top gainer, soaring 10 per cent while ISLAMIBANK was the worst loser, losing 5.61 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also fell sharply with the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) losing 148.06 points to settle at 17,009.48 and its Selective Categories Index (CSCX) shedding 90.44 points to close at 10,243.05.

Of the issues traded, 168 declined, 58 advanced and 16 issues remained unchanged.

The port-city bourse traded 73.57 lakh shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Taka 15.08 crore.
