Steps to be taken to uphold dignity of judiciary: CJ

Vacant posts of judges will be fulfilled

Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan said that steps will be taken to fill up the shortage of courts everywhere in the country. Government will establish courts. All necessary cooperation will be provided from my side.

The Chief Justice made these remarks in his address as the chief guest speech at the Bijoya Sammilan 2024 organized by the Chittagong Lawyers Bijoya Sammilan Parishad at the Bar Association Auditorium on Thursday evening.

The demands of the lawyers for setting up the Circuit Bench of the High Court in Chittagong, the Chief Justice said that this demand should be fulfilled.  Why this logical demand has not been fulfilled so far, a decision will be taken after discussing with the predecessors.  

He said, “I had a meeting with the officials of the judiciary. There was a discussion about judiciary, law courts, training of lawyers etc.  All possible work will be done to uphold the dignity of the judiciary.”

 The Chief Justice said, Bangladesh is a country of harmony. There is no communal conflict here. Those who dispute are not really followers of any religion.  He said, those who consider their own religion to be superior and belittle other religions are bigots.  Fanatics are not good for society. Peace will be established in the society if we can remove sin, violence and hatred from the hearts of all of us.  He said, death is not a punishment.  This is the normal process of life.  At the end of life there will be death. We are punished because of sin.  At work, we all have to keep our hearts free from sin.

President of the Parishad Advocate Tarun Kishore Dey also spoke on the occasion. Chittagong Senior District and Sessions Judge Aziz Ahmad Bhuiya, Metropolitan Sessions Judge Dr. Begum Zebunnesa, Bangladesh Bar Council Member Advocate ASM Badrul Anwar, Supreme Court Lawyers Association General Secretary Advocate Abdul Noor Dulal, Chittagong Bar Association President Advocate Nazim Uddin Chowdhury, Secretary Advocate ASM Bajlur Rashid, Council General Secretary Advocate Nikhil Kumar Nath and Coordinator Advocate Vivekananda Chowdhury, were present.

Srimat Swami Ravishwarananda Puri Maharaj, Maharaja of Panchuria Tapobana Ashram was the benediction in the meeting.

 Dr. Manoranjan Ghoshal, the Ekushey Medal recipient, vocalist of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra was felicitated.

The Chief Justice met the officers of the Chittagong Judiciary Department in a discussion meeting at the circuit house of the city.  Chittagong Judicial Department organized this meeting.
