Sreemangal municipality has carried out a drive to clear illegal structures from various roads, including the removal of illegal tin-sheds erected by the market in front of Radhanath Cinema Hall on Station Road in the municipal area.

Under the overall supervision of Mayor Md Mohsin Mia Madhu, the drive was conducted by Sreemangal Municipality Executive Engineer Md Zahirul Islam. Sreemangal Municipality councillor and Panel Mayor-1 Kazi Abdul Karim, councillors Md Hanif Chowdhury and Chayan Roy, municipal officials and employees of various levels, among others, were present during the demolition drive on Thursday.

Executive Engineer Md Zahirul Islam said that the drive was conducted to keep the municipal area free from traffic jam and to enhance its beauty.

He also said there are some traders who have been conducting business by constructing additional tin-sheds on the municipal footpaths in front of their shops. The municipal authorities did not get any remedy even after repeatedly telling the traders from the municipality. Therefore, the illegal structures have been dismantled and removed by the municipality on its own initiative.

He said some traders have also ruined the beauty of the municipal area by throwing garbage from their shops on the streets. In addition, despite the repeated eviction of illegal business establishments, some unscrupulous traders are again creating obstacles for the common people by sitting on the sidewalks to run business.

The executive engineer said, “We want to keep the municipal area beautiful and traffic free for everyone.”

Therefore, he has sought the cooperation of all, including the businessmen of the area.

Mayor Md Mohsin Mia Madhu said Sreemangal Municipality is free from terrorism and extortion and above kinship. “No one should be harassed while coming to the municipality for service. Besides, there is no extortion in the municipal area. No leniency is given to anyone involved in immoral activities,” the mayor said.

He also said, “People voted for me again and again, so my main goal is to see people's welfare and deliver services to people's doorsteps. No compromise will be made to keep the municipal area traffic free and beautiful and this campaign will continue.”
