‘Spider-Man 3’ fan poster pays homage to old Spidey comics

A new ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ fan poster featuring Doctor Strange pays homage to old Spidey comics. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film follows the bombshell of Spider-Man: Far From Home's mid-credits scene, which saw Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) implicate ‘Spider-Man’ as a murderer and expose his secret identity. J.K. Simmons reprising his J. Jonah Jameson role turned the internet into a whirlwind of rumors regarding the Multiverse and familiar faces from past franchises. On top of various leaks, Phase 4 projects like Disney+’s ‘Loki’, ‘What If…?’, and No Way Home’s first teaser have only exacerbated those rumors, making the upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ sequel the most anticipated MCU film since ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

In No Way Home’s teaser, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) goes to see ‘Doctor Strange’ (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help with regaining his anonymity. After ignoring Wong’s (Benedict Wong) warning, Strange begins to cast a dangerous spell intended to make the whole world forget Peter is ‘Spider-Man’, and, predictably, everything goes awry. At the end of the video, Spider-Man 2’s Alfred Molina returns as Doctor Octopus. Fans have speculated that a handful of other Sony villains could appear, as well as their respective ‘Spider-Men’, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, though nothing outside of the early footage has been confirmed.

While many fan-made posters for ‘No Way Home’ have acted as wish fulfillment by placing the three Spideys together, famed internet artist Bosslogic took a different approach, paying homage to Spider-Man comics of old. The piece depicts Doctor Strange jumping through a portal, leaving the Sanctum Sanctorum behind.

There have been theories addressing Strange’s role in ‘No Way Home’ and how it will lead into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Piggybacking off the idea that ‘Doctor Strange’ wouldn't attempt such a dangerous spell as the one in the trailer, many have speculated that the Strange fans know isn’t the one in the Sanctum. Instead, What If…?’s ‘Doctor Strange Supreme’, or, worse, Mephisto has taken his place. ‘Spider-Man’ and Strange are even seen fighting in the trailer, but this is most likely due once again to Peter’s poor decisions.    -Collider
