A deaf farmer was killed after being hit by a train in Lalmonirhat's Hatibandha upazila.
The victim is Abdul Majid, 66, of Uttar Parulia village.
The accident took place at Uttar Parulia Railgate area of Patikapara union on Thursday afternoon, when the Burimari-bound train was going to Patgram upazila from Lalmonirhat Railway Station.
Police and locals said that the deaf farmer was walking alone beside the rail tracks when train coming from opposite direction hit the farmer, critically injuring him.
Locals rushed to the spot and rescued the farmer and took him to Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Hatibandha Police Station Officer in-Charge Shaha Alam confirmed the incident.
An unnatural death case was filed in this regard with the Lalmonirhat Railway GRP Police Station, he said.
