The National Parliament Bhaban is going to be decorated with a special look centering a special session of the parliament on the occasion of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Apart from the colourful lighting system, the entire National Parliament Building will be decorated with boats and the portraits of Bangabandhu.
The Parliament Secretariat authorities have taken the initiatives, said officials concerned. The process of the decoration already has been started. The birth centenary of Bangabandhu will be celebrated on March 17 and on the occasion, a two-day long special session of the National Parliament will be held on March 22 and March 23.
The special National Parliament session is expected to be participated by the Presidents, Prime Ministers and ministers of different countries. A large number of veteran personalities from Bangladesh and other countries are also expected to attend the session.
Sources said, a list of the special guests already have been prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Indian President Prabab Mukharjee, Indian Congress Party president Sonia Gandhi, Bangladeshi origin and British Parliamentarians from Labour Party Tulip Siddique, also a daughter-in-law of Bangabandhu, and Rushanara Ali, Ley Thu Haa, a Steering Committee Member on Foreign Ministry of the Vietnam, Nepali Congressman Arjun Narasingha KC, former UNESCO Secretary General Irina Bokovo, among other international leaders, are expected to take part in the special parliament session.
Officials of the Parliament Secretariat said that centering the birth centenary of Bangabandhu as well as the Mujib Barsho, they have taken year-long programmes. A special session of the National Parliament is one of them. Besides, almost all the parliament members will place floral wraths at the statue of Bangabandhu at Dhanmondi on March 22, the first day of the special parliament session. During the special parliament session, a discussion will be held on Bangabandhu. A list of the speakers, who will speak on Bangabandhu, is being prepared.
On the other hand, a Child Fair is going to be arranged on March 19 on the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building while an exhibition on the photographs of Bangabandhu and documents related to him will be held there. According to sources, at least three stages and a gallery with the capacity to accommodate around 90,000 guests will be built as part of the huge and colourfull arrangement on the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu on March 17.
Besides, in and around the venue, the National Parade Ground, which is also known as the Old Airport in capital Dhaka, will be decorated reflecting the history and heritages of Bangladesh, they said. Moreover, the inaugural functions will be displayed through 19 LED displays across the country. One of the displays will be installed at the capital’s Hatirjheel.
With the celebration of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu on March 17, the Mujib Barsho will also be inaugurated. The Mujib Barsho will be celebrated for one year through various programmes from March 17 in 2,020 to March 17 in 2021. During the inaugural period, 100 pigeons will be freed in the air while parachute jumping will also be started at the same time. Fireworks and cultural functions will be organised in the evening.
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born at Tungipara in Gopalganj district on March 17 in 1920. From a student leader, he became a world leader. Bangladesh has been independent under his leadership. Unfortunately, he was assassinated along with his family members on August 15 in 1975, only three and a half years after the independence of the country.
