South Asia extremely prone to climate change: CCFS

South Asia has been identified as one of the most vulnerable regions in the world for climate change in the Dhaka Declaration of the International Conference on Climate Change and Food Security in South Asia (CCFS) organized at Dhaka University.

About 40 per cent of the world's natural disasters occur in South Asia as a result of climate change, various recommendations have been made from the conference to formulate and implement short and long term programs to address the adverse effects of climate change. These recommendations were presented at the Meet the Press event held at Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom on Saturday. Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman was present as the Chief Guest on the occasion.

At the meet-the-press event, the chairman of the international committee of CCFS, Dr Mannava Shivakumar and Prof Dr AHM Mustafizur Rahman, Chief Coordinator of the Conference Organizing Committee spoke.

Meet the press event to form South Asia Network and South Asia Climate Outlook Forum on Climate Change and Food Security, conduct multidisciplinary research activities, launch modern information and communication technology based systems like mobile application for agricultural advice and weather forecasting, salt tolerant rice and crop. It is recommended to undertake joint collaborative education and research projects between caste innovation, educational institutes, research institutes, industrial institutes, NGOs and international organizations.

It may be mentioned that on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a three-day international conference titled ' The President of Bangladesh and Chancellor of Dhaka University Md. Abdul Hamid inaugurated the conference from Bangabhaban as the chief guest. The conference is jointly organized by Dhaka University and the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France.
