Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee’s condition has improved a bit. He is responding to treatment. For this reason, the bypap support, i.e. non-invasive ventilation support has been removed.
The Bellevue Nursing Home authorities in Kolkata informed the media on Tuesday (October 13) evening. Soumitra Chatterjee, 65, has been admitted there for more than a week.
According to Bellevue authorities, Soumitra is undergoing treatment for coronavirus as before. The medicine that was being given for a few days remained unchanged. So far he has been given plasma therapy twice. There are sodium-potassium variations in his body. He is under the supervision of doctors.
Soumitra Chatterjee underwent echo, ECG and blood tests on Tuesday. MRI has been done anew. The coronavirus was tested again on Wednesday (October 14). Although the crisis did not end, his physical condition is now stable. He is responding to treatment, hospital authorities said.
Soumitra’s daughter Paulmi Basu said, “Dad is better than before. The situation is somewhat stable. Even if it is only by one percent, the situation has improved. By-Pap support has been removed. At the moment, the doctors are not thinking of keeping him in invasive ventilation.”
Soumitra Chatterjee was admitted to Bellevue Nursing Home last Tuesday after contracting coronavirus. Since then he has been undergoing treatment there. His physical condition deteriorated last Friday.
On Monday, the hospital reported that Soumitra’s prostate cancer had spread to his lungs and brain. There have also been urinary tract infections. Soumitra was then placed on by-pap ventilation.
