Young artist Tushar Dey has depicted women and nature in craftworks displayed in his maiden solo exhibition titled Karushilpe Hatekhari under way at Zainul Gallery of Dhaka University.
The exhibition is displaying 40 artworks created using different techniques, including serigraph, applique, tie-dye, woodcarving and others.
Tushar depicts women figures alongside folk motifs, mythological characters, farmers, Bauls and others.
Among the displayed artworks, a brass work titled Love of Farmers Family shows a farmer couple looking at each other on a background containing a popular Bangla folk song.
A wood and metal work titled Dancing Girl with Bird shows a Bengali woman in traditional shari and jewellery dancing on a lotus leaf. Besides, the artwork contains birds and water lilies.
A colourful batik work titled Nari o Pakhi, shows a Bengali woman talking to her pet myna.
His serigraphy work titled Beerangona comprises the face of a woman on a background containing a bright red circle, a white dove and a plethora of texts paying tribute to war heroines. ‘The exhibition showcases artworks which I created when I was pursuing a degree in crafts from the fine arts faculty of Dhaka University. I invite all to visit my exhibition,’ said artist Tushar Dey.
Tushar Dey completed his MFA and BFA in craft from the fine arts faculty of Dhaka University. He won the Department Best Award, Craft, in 2010 and 2011. He participated in several group art exhibitions, including National Art Exhibition and Nepal Art Fair.
Karushilpe Hatekhari, which was inaugurated by renowned painter Hashem Khan on July 3, will end on July 7.
