The government has taken initiative to install solar driven submersible deep tube wells in two educational institutions in Jhenaidah to ease the safe drinking water problem for the students and teachers.
The tube wells will help meet the safe drinking water and also help reduce the waterborne diseases free of cost.
The students, teachers, and other employees of the educational institutions have been availing the water in adequate quantity as they desire. The institutions are barred from spending any money for electricity charges as the pumps were running by solar, said officials of the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE).
Bithi Khatun, a student of class ten at Shailkupa Government Pilot High School, said that they have been using the pump water for drinking and washing purposes. ten to twelve people may avail the water use facilities at time.
Another male student of the school scheduled for sitting in the upcoming secondary certificate examination, said they consume the water whenever they want free of cost. It is a timely opportunity for the students, he said.
Saiful Islam, sub assistant engineer (SAE) of the DPHE at Shailkupa said that the pump at the high school was installed at a cost of Taka 4.80 lakh under the water supply project in rural areas where the submersible deep tube wells will run with high power solar. The institutions will not have to bear the electricity charge die to soar system, SAE said.
Aminul Islam, executive engineer of the DPHE in Jhenaidah, said they have installed two such pumps Shailkupa Government Pilot High School and Moheshpur Government Pilot High School with the government fund.
About 2,500 students, teachers and other employees of the institutions will avail the safe water free of cost. The water was free from hazardous excessive arsenic, iron, manganese and chloride. Further, the PH of the water was also examined in modern testing laboratories.
He also said that the water of the pumps would help prevent corona virus, other water-contaminated diseases including diarrhea, dysentery and other intestinal diseases. It will undoubtedly help build a healthy nation as desired by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Aminul Islam said.
