Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two smugglers along with 50 pieces of gold bars weighing 5.840 kg from Natunhat area in Benapole-Jashore Highway of Jashore District on Friday (December 10) morning while they were being trafficked to India.
The arrestees are identified as Touhidul Islam, 43, son of Khoka Mollah of Kalia upazila of Narail and Imran Hossain, 35, son of Harias Sardar of the same area.
Acting Commander of 49 BGB, Major Tawfiq Mahmud said that on Friday morning, BGB members received a tip-off that a huge quantity of gold was being smuggled from Jashore to India with the help of a motorcycle. BGB arrested two smugglers along with a motorcycle (whose registration number is Jessore-L-13-6414 Yamaha FZS).

Later BGB searched their bodies and seized 50 gold bars hidden inside their pants were specially hidden in their waists. The market price of the gold is Tk 4.96 crore, said Major Tawfiq Mahmud.
They have confessed to the BGB that they have been smuggling gold to India for a long time. They have to paid TK 3,000 per bar. However, the BGB is continuing its efforts to arrest the original owner of the gold. A case has been registered against the arrested smugglers at Jashore Kotwali Police Station.
