Smart grid will ensure reliable, sustainable power supply

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that smart grid will ensure reliable and sustainable power supply system. It will also contribute effectively in saving electricity. At the same time, time and money will be saved.

The Minister of State said these things in the chief guest's speech at Vidyut Bhawan today, during the presentation of the study report on Smart Grid Roadmap in Bangladesh being implemented by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in collaboration with United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). He said, cost-effective activities in all areas are the need of the hour. Everyone should be encouraged to use electricity and energy saving appliances and technologies. It is also necessary to inform stakeholders on how the Smart Grid can contribute to our power generation and transmission systems.

Power Cell signed an agreement on 09.02.2022 with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) for technical cooperation on Smart Grid Roadmap in Bangladesh. In view of this, BCG started functioning from 22 February 2022. Presented the report of their activities today. The study focused on five key areas – reliable and sustainable power supply, automation monitoring and regulation, integrated renewable energy, effective customer engagement and platforms. Workforce capability, cyber security, digital platforms and information, existing standards and laws, power infrastructure and financing—these issues will be at the back of the survey. Existing generation, transmission and distribution systems have challenges such as frequency variation, high frequency, transmission loss, manual transmission management, power interruption and power quality. The report mentions 28 initiatives to address existing challenges. The report was presented on behalf of BCG by Zarif Munir, Managing Director and Sudhanshu Gupta, Partner, Amazing Markets.

Additional Secretary of Power Department Md. Mohsin Chowdhury, PDB Chairman Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Power Cell DG Mohammad Hossain and heads of departments/organizations were present in the survey report presentation ceremony.
