The 30th death anniversary of the renowned artist SM Sultan was observed in a befitting manner in Narail district town on Thursday.
The programme was organised by Narail district administration and SM Sultan Foundation with various events. The programme started at 7:00am on Thursday. A tribute was paid to the artist by placing wreaths at Sultan Smriti Sangrahashala. Later, Holy Quran was recited and a Doa Mahfil was held on this occasion.
Later, a children's painting exhibition was held at Shishu Swargo Auditorium. Besides, an art competition and prize giving ceremony were also held. After that, a discussion on the life and work of artist SM Sultan was held at the auditorium.
Deputy Commissioner of Narail Sharmin Akhter Jahan attended the programme as the chief guest. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Saswati Seal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Zubayer Hossain Chowdhury, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) MM Arafat Hossain, Narail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ripon Biswas, Nezarat Deputy Collector (NDC) Md Jisan Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narail Sadar Police Station Md Sajedul Islam, former member secretary of SM Sultan Foundation Advocate Iqbal Hossain Sikder, BNP district committee secretary Md Monirul Islam, life member of SM Sultan Foundation Sultan Mahmood, curator of SM Sultan Sangrahashala Tandra Mukherjee and others were present at the programme.
SM Sultan, a legendary artist of Bangladesh, won Ekushey Padak in 1982, Bangladesh Charu Shilpi Sangsad Award in 1986 and Swadhinata Padak in 1993. He was declared the Man of Asia in 1982 by Cambridge University.
Artist Sultan was born at Masumdia area in Narail town on August 10 in 1924. He died on October 10 in 1994.
