Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) heats up this Friday as Abahani Limited lock horns with Bangladesh Police FC at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj. Kick-off is set for 4:00 PM, and the encounter promises to be a fascinating clash between a team aiming to solidify their playoff position and another seeking to extend their unbeaten run.

Abahani, currently sitting comfortably in third place with 25 points from 14 games, will be keen to bounce back from their recent 2-1 defeat to league leaders Bashundhara Kings.

This loss snapped their impressive eight-game unbeaten run (W5 D3 L0), but Abahani still hold a strong position in the race for the top four. Their attacking prowess has been a key factor in their success, with Cornelius Stewart leading the scoring charts for the club with a staggering 11 goals, placing him joint-second in the league.

Standing in their way are a resurgent Bangladesh Police FC. The Policemen have surprised many this season, currently occupying eighth place with 16 points.

They come into this match on the back of a morale-boosting 2-0 victory over Rahmatgonj MFS, extending their unbeaten run to six games (W4 D2 L0). Edward Morillo and Edis Ibargüen have been instrumental in their recent success, contributing four and three goals respectively.

Historically, Abahani have dominated Bangladesh Police in the BPL. Their last encounter in February saw Abahani emerge victorious with a 2-1 scoreline.

This dominance is further highlighted by their impressive eight-game unbeaten run against the Policemen. However, Bangladesh Police will be eager to rewrite history and secure their first league win against Abahani since February 2020.

This match carries significant weight for both teams. Abahani cannot afford to drop further points if they want to maintain their position in the top three and secure a coveted playoff spot.

For Bangladesh Police, a win would not only extend their unbeaten streak but also provide a crucial confidence boost as they continue their fight to climb the league table.

Friday's encounter promises to be a thrilling display of attacking football and resolute defending.

Abahani will be looking to exploit their recent dominance over Bangladesh Police, while the Policemen will be determined to prove their recent revival is no fluke. With both teams boasting attacking threats and a hunger for victory, this BPL clash is sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
