Law enforcers have taken highest security measures in and around the central Shaheed Minar to ensure smooth observance of International Mother Language Day on February 21, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam.
‘There will be six-tier of security for wreath-laying at the Central Shaheed Minar on the International Mother Language Day, Amar Ekushey February or February 21," he said this while talking to reporters after inspecting the security arrangements at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital on Saturday.
The DMP commissioner said, “Police will search the mess and residential hotels in the vicinity of DU at night. No one would be allowed to carry any kind of bag while paying homage at the Shaheed Minar because a lot of mobile phones are stolen from this Shaheed Minar area every year. This makes it difficult for us to catch mobile thief”.
He said there would be no shortage of security at the Shaheed Minar. He said adding that there would be uniformed police as well as plain clothes police, bomb disposal unit, DB, RAB, SWAT team and dog squad in the area.
He also said it was not yet sure whether the president and the prime minister would come to lay wreaths. However, overall security measures have been taken for their safety if they arrive.
The DMP commissioner said that there were some restrictions for Covid this time, so everyone is requested to follow by the guidelines announced by the government and the Dhaka University authorities complying with the hygiene rules.
The DMP commissioner further said that the students tried to come to the Shaheed Minar from the opposite direction that creates chaos. He also request the students to follow the rules and not to disturb others by coming from the opposite direction and not to create any untoward situation by pulling political banners and festoons.
He also said that foreign ambassadors and diplomats would be brought to the Shaheed Minar separately.
