Names of country’s six public medical colleges have been changed, dropping the names of individuals but highlighting names of the respective districts where the colleges are located.
Secretary of the Medical Education and Family Welfare Division Dr Md Sarwar Bari signed a gazette in this regard on Wednesday, says a press release of the ministry issued on Thursday.
According to the notification, Colonel Maleque Medical College in Manikganj renamed as Manikganj Medical College and Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College in Noakhali renamed as Noakhali Medical College.
Sheikh Hasina Medical College in Jamalpur will now be introduced as Jamalpur Medical College while Sheikh Hasina Medical College in Tangail, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College in Faridpur and M Abdur Rahim Medical College in Dinajpur were renamed respectively as Tangail Medical College, Faridpur Medical College and Dinajpur Medical College.
The notification states that this order, issued under the president's directive, will be effective immediately.
