A total of six people were killed and six others injured in separate road accidents in Cox’s Bazar, Pirojpur and Tangail on Thursday.
Cox’s Bazar Correspondent reports: Three people were killed including two drivers and four others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a covered van in Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar on Thursday.
The incident happened when a Dhaka-bound bus of Eagle Paribahan from Cox's Bazar collided with the covered van coming from the opposite direction around 10 am on Thursday in the upazila’s Harbang area. Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Mohammad Ali confirmed the matter.
The injured were sent to the Upazila Health Complex for treatment. Among the injured, two are in critical condition. The identities of the dead and injured could not be ascertained. Efforts are on to identify them, said the OC.
He also said the two vehicles involved in the accident have been seized.
Pirojpur Correspondent says: Two youths were killed and another was injured in a motorcycle accident at Baraibunia Mollabari area in Matibhanga union under Nazirpur upazila of the district Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Swadhin Sheikh, 16, son of Dalim Sheikh of Hoglabunia village and Rahmat Sheikh, 15, son of Mukul Sheikh of East Baniyari village of the upazila. They were students of Baraibunia Secondary School of the area. The accident occurred when they were going to Patgati area riding a motorbike.
Tangail Correspondent adds: A motorcyclist was killed and another injured after being hit by a truck on the Tangail-Aricha regional road in Govt M M Ali College Mor area under Sadar upazila of the district on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Rukunuzzaman, 35, son of Akhtarul of Mirganj area under Bagha upazila of Rajshahi. He was a sales officer of Citigroup.
The accident occurred when a Nagarpur-bound sand-laden truck from Sylhet hit the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction in the area around 9am, leaving the motorcycle rider dead on the spot and another injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tangail Sadar Police Station Lokman Hossain said.
The injured was taken to Tangail General Hospital, he said.
Police recovered the body from the spot and sent to Tangail General Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC added.
Police seized the truck and detained its driver.
