Six including Jamaat Ameer on remand

A Dhaka court has placed six people, including Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh Dr Abdullah Md Taher on a five-day remand in a case lodged for obstructing police in conducting their duties and causing damages to the state properties.

Dr Md Saleh Uddin Sayeed, Kamrul Ahsan Ripon, Alhaj Md Mobarak Hossain, Mohammad Ali and Mehedi Hasan have also been placed on remand.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order on Wednesday as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded for a seven-day remand.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Qamrul Islam of Dhanmandi Police Station filed the case against the Jamaat leaders for damaging iron lampposts and railings in Shankar Bus Stand area, vandalising a pickup truck and later torching the vehicle there.
