On the allegation of demanding kickback from two accused persons in a case, authorities of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police on Thursday withdrew a Sub-inspector of Police after several audio clips of his demanding kickback went viral on social media on Wednesday night.
RMP Police Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique withdrew Sub-Inspector Waresh and closed him to the Police lines after they came to learn about the incident, informed ASM Siddiqur Rahman, Officer-in-charge of Rajpara police station in the city.
Earlier, several audio clips of SI Waresh went viral on social media where he was heard demanding kickback from the accused, assuring them not to arrest.
According to the police and local sources, a case was lodged with Rajpara police station against seven people on November 3 over previous enmity. In an audio clip, Waresh was heard asking Rafi to keep a ‘budget’ for the Rajpara police station Officer-in-charge while in another one he accepted some money through mobile phone bkash account.
Several days later, Waresh contacted Rafi once again and asked for money for the breakfast of the police force.
Waresh was also heard, in another audio clip, hurling abusive language at Rafi over the phone for submitting his bail papers to the duty officer instead of him.
Waresh also contacted Kacha, one of the accused in the case on November 7 and demanded bribes from him. As Kacha refused to pay him, SI Waresh also hurled abusive language at him over the phone.
Contacted, SI Waresh claimed that the leaked audio clips were not right and disconnected the phone, saying that he would talk later on.
