The government is going to buy 4 ships from China spending Tk 2500 crore. The plan is to purchase two crude well mother tankers and two mother bulk carrier vessels for Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC), a state-owned enterprise.
These four ships will be purchased on a 'G2G' basis with the loan assistance of the Chinese government. A proposal in this regard to buy the ships through Bangladesh Shipping Corporation under the Ministry of Shipping has been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement held a meeting on Wednesday.
The purchase proposal is being brought from the Ministry of Shipping. If the cabinet committee approves, the process of buying the ship will begin.
Apart from the proposal to buy four ships for BSC, another proposal of the Ministry of Shipping will be presented in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement.
Besides, one purchase proposal from the Prime Minister's Office, one from the Bridge Department, three from the Energy and Mineral Resources Department, four from the Ministry of Industry and four from the Ministry of Agriculture will be presented in the meeting, according to related sources.
Apart from this, two proposals of the Prime Minister's Office, one of the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources and two of the Ministry of Food will be presented in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs.
The meetings of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs will be chaired by two Finance Ministers.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal presided over the meeting.
After the meeting, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division, Secretary Syed Mahbub Khan gave details.
He said, The total cost to buy the ships will be 2 thousand 486 crores 30 lakhs 88 thousand 857 taka.2 crude oil mother tankers and 2 mother bulk carrier ships on G2G basis by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) under the Ministry of Shipping.
A total of 4 ships will be purchased from China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation.
