Shiblinga stolen from Mymensingh recovered in Tangail

The Shiblinga that was stolen from Bhangamoth Shiv Temple in Mymensingh town on Sunday was recovered from Tangail on early Monday. A youth was also detained in connection with this incident.

The detainee was identified as Prashanta Karmakar, 33, resident of Dainna area in Tangail.

Police conducted a drive at Dainna area in Tangail on early Monday and recovered the Shiblinga.

According to the police, a rickshaw driver was initially identified through CCTV footage. The rickshaw driver took the young man, who was carrying the Shivlinga, to the Tangail bus stand. Later, the police spoke to the helper of the bus the young man traveled on and learned that he had taken the Shiblinga to the filling station area in Tangail. Using information technology, they identified the suspect.

Later, they conducted a raid at the young man's house, where the Shivlinga was recovered and the young man was arrested.

At a press conference, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali model police station, Md Shafiqul Islam Khan, said that an investigation would determine whether any other groups were involved in the incident. The recovered Shiblinga, made of stone, is estimated to be worth around Tk one crore.
