The curtain of the weeklong sports extravaganza Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games falls on Saturday at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in capital Dhaka.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the chief patron of the Games, formally inaugurated the final phase of the Games on February 26.
General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, Chief of Army Staff, also the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Olympic Association, was the chief guest at the closing ceremony.
The Army Chief watched the 100 meters sprint, the special attraction of the sport extravaganza, where Irin Akter and Naim Sheikh became the fastest woman and the fasted man.
Irin Akter of Rangpur Division won the gold of the 100 meter sprint. Sultana Zinnat of Khulna Division won the silver and Umme Sultana Popi of Rajshahi Division won the bronze.
In the boys’ section, Naim Sheikh of Khulna Division won the gold while Robiul Islam of Khulna won silver. Arif Billah of Rajshahi Division won the bronze medal.
However, the biggest Sports carnival in Bangladesh, with the participation of record 60,000 athletes from across the country from grassroots to national level ended with a festive mood after the weeklong final phase.
A total of 400 athletes took part in the final phase with the champions from eight divisions competed for 193 gold, as many silver and 287 bronze medals.
