Bollywood renowned actress Sharmila Tagore is set to grace the 22nd Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF), scheduled to take place from January 20 to January 28 next year. Sharmila will serve as a juror for the Asian competition section.
The festival’s organisers announced that Sharmila Tagore would be joined by four other judges in the Asian competition section, including Russian producer Anna Shalashina, Chinese film expert and producer Dr Shi Chuan, Bangladeshi director Samia Zaman, and Thai director and producer Tom Waller.
Ahmed Mujtaba Jamal, the Director of Dhaka Film Festival, said, “Sharmila Tagore will be in Dhaka for the festival from January 20 to 28. She will attend the festival and serve as a judge, providing her verdict after watching the films submitted in the Asian Competition section.”
The Dhaka festival will host renowned figures from world cinema, including Iranian director Majid Majidi, known for the acclaimed film ‘Children of Heaven.’ Majidi will conduct a masterclass on filmmaking at the festival. Additionally, masterclasses will be led by West Bengal filmmaker, actor, and renowned musician Anjan Dutt and Chinese film expert Shi Chuan.
The festival will feature the evaluation and recognition of outstanding films, producers, actors, actresses, screenwriters, and film professionals from entries in the Asian competition section.
Established in 1992, Dhaka International Film Festival, organised by the Rainbow Film Society, stands as the largest film event in the country, with over 250 movies from 75 countries featured in its upcoming 22nd edition. The festival aims to showcase aesthetic films, engage a mindful audience, and contribute to an enlightened society.
