Meher Afroz Shaon is making a grand return to acting after a 17-year hiatus. Shaon, a beloved figure in Bangladeshi media, first gained fame through her roles in films directed by the legendary Humayun Ahmed. After marrying Humayun Ahmed, she stepped back from the limelight to focus on her family and children. Her last film, "Amar Achhe Jol," was released in 2008.
Now, Shaon is set to star in "Neel Jochona," a film directed by Fakhrul Arefeen Khan and funded by the government. The film is based on Mostak Ahmed's novel "Neel Jochonar Jibon," which explores themes of parapsychology. Shaon expressed her excitement about the project, saying, "It has been 17 years since I last acted in a film. I was drawn to the story and the character, which is why I decided to take it on."
In "Neel Jochona," Shaon will portray an urban woman, a role that intrigued her. She shared that while she is excited to start shooting after such a long break, she cannot reveal more details about the film or her character due to the producer and director's policies. The filming will begin in Dhaka, and the cast includes notable actors such as Tariq Anam Khan, Intekhab Dinar, Partha Barua, S.M. Naeem, and Paoli Dam from West Bengal.
Fakhrul Arefeen Khan, known for directing films like "Bhuban Majhi," "Gondi," and "JK 1971," has been working on "Neel Jochona" for nearly six years. The production was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and his involvement in other projects, but it has now resumed, and the team hopes to complete it soon.
Shaon's acting journey began as a child in the film "Alal Dulal." She gained widespread recognition through her roles in "Shrabon Meghher Din," "Dui Duari," "Chandrokotha," "Shyamol Chhaya," and "Amar Achhe Jol." In addition to acting, she directed the film "Krishnopokkho," released in 2016.
Shaon's return to the screen with "Neel Jochona" is eagerly anticipated by her fans, marking a significant comeback for the talented actress.
