It was very much disappointing start for Bangladesh in the ‘Super Four’ stage when they went down to Pakistan by seven wickets in the ongoing Asia Cup.
Held at the sporting pitch of Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Bangladesh were measureably bundled out for paltry 193 runs and the team’s total was 193 in 38.4 overs.
But the Bangaldesh captain also expected that they will do well in Colimbo when they will take on Sri Lanka on tomorrow inr their second match in the Super Four. Bangladesh though lost their group phase match to Sri Lanka by five wickets, hoped to hit back with a win.
Shakib specially noticed to their poor batting approach during in the powerplay when bagaldesh were cheaped to 47 for four wickets.
It was very much unfortunate and obviously unexpected that Bangladesh would fold their innings before to reach even 200 runs mark, when they were 180 for six with the most experienced batters Shakib Al Hassan and Mushfiqur Rahim were on the crease with the team’s score 180.
Tigers, who were tumbled for 47 runs for four wickets after a worst possible start of their innings with losing the first wicket of Mehidy Hassan Miraz for a duct and no score on the scorecard, then Litton Das, Shamim Hassan and TowhidRidoy none could halt the disaster, as all of them gone in quick successions.
Tigers lost their makeshift opener Mehidy Hassan Miraz, who scored a century in the do or die encounter against Afghanistan to steer the team to Super Four phase, backed to the pavilion for a duck facing just one ball.
Liton Das, who could not played previous two matches due to illness, joined the team on Monday after coming round from fever, looked very much confidence after going as one down. Liton played some crisp shots and looked promising for a decent score, but could not far when got out after scoring 16 runs with hitting four boundaries. Liton pushed at a hard length ball from Shaeen Shah Afridi and was beaten by the extra bounce and gave a simple catch to the keeper.
After getting rid of the early debacle Shakib and Mushfiqur in the fifth wicket stand scored just 100 urns and it looked the Tigers would have a respectable total.
But the captain Shakib, after being settled on the crease got out off right-hand medium pacer Faheem, who just made a huge breakthrough and as well shattered Bangladesh optimism of scoring a big total.
After captain’s departure, captain Mushfiqur Rahim could also not stay for a long as he gifted his wicket to Haris Rauf, who played a big role with taking highest four wickets for Pakistan in his six overs spell conceding only 19 runs.
It was expected Mushfiqur Rahim to play up to the end but played a bad shot and exposed Bangladesh's tail to this devastating Pakistan pace bowling.
Bangladesh batter in fact, had not posted anywhere a score, which could be called balance as the batters were completely outdone by the pace of Pakistan bowlers.
This was a disappointing effort from the batting unit with the comparison of their brilliant skills in the previous match.
In the post match reaction on Wednesday Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hassan did not hesitate to disclose his opinion, as he said that it was reckless batting show which led their downfall.
“Ideally, we would have to bat a lot deeper we really liked and get a score on the board, which is the nature of playing against top-seam attacks.
Shakib did not forget to applaud the Pakistan’s pacers, who just maintained perfect line and length bowling with superb pace, on a pitch that was helpful for the batters.
“We lost at the start, they bowled really well and we played some ordinary shots. On a wicket like this, we shouldn't have lost four wickets in 10 overs,”Shakib said.
“They are the No. 1 team and these are the reasons. They have three world-class bowlers who make things easier for them. We have been doing well in the bowling department, but batting is a bit hot and cold. We need to be more consistent.”
“We had a very good partnership, we should have got going for 7-8 overs.
After I got out, there were no more partnerships. It’s a very poor batting display on a surface like this.”
“We have been doing well in our bowling department. Batting at this moment is little bit hot and cold. We need to be consistent and that's what we’ll try to do. Our three seamers bowled brilliantly. They have been bowling well for the last couple of years,” he said.
ButShakibexoected to doing well in Colombo against Sri Lanka - "Unfortunately, we couldn't get the wickets. It wasn't a pitch where you can get wickets unless batsmen make a mistake. Hopefully we do well in Colombo."
“We have to take it on our chin and move to the next one as we have another game in a couple of days,” Shakib said.
