Bangladesh all rounder Shakib Al Hasan has etched his name in the annals of Bangladeshi cricket history by becoming the oldest player from his country to participate in a Test match. The esteemed all-rounder took to the field on the third day of Bangladesh’s first Test against India in Chennai, marking a significant milestone at the age of 37 years and 181 days.
This achievement surpasses the previous record held by former left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafique, who was 37 years and 180 days old when he played his final Test against South Africa in Chattogram in 2008.
In the broader context of cricket history, England's Wilfred Rhodes remains the oldest cricketer to have ever played a Test match. Rhodes, who also boasts the longest Test career spanning 30 years and 315 days, was 52 years and 165 days old when he made his final appearance against the West Indies in Kingston in 1930.
