The country’s nurse community demanded immediate trial and exemplary punishment of Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital (KBFGH) director Amirul Hasan for his alleged involvement in sexual harassment of a senior staff nurse (SSN) of the hospital, says a press release.
Nurses from different public and private hospitals on Sunday afternoon staged demonstration and formed human chain across the country, demanding justice to the recent sexual harassment and intimidation of a senior staff nurse serving at KBFGH, popularly known as Kuwait Maitree Hospital.
Bangladesh Nurses Association called for the countrywide demonstration after the issue of the nurse’s sexual harassment at the hands of the hospital’s director Amirul Hasan emerged in media last week.
Nurses from Rangpur Medical College and Hospital, Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital, Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital, Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital and Ahsanullah Master Hospital in Gazipur, Sadar Hospital and Nursing Institute in Madaripur, Sadar Hospital and Nursing College in Manikganj and National Cancer Institute in Dhaka’s Mahakhali formed separate human chains to press their demand.
The nurses, besides justice, also demanded adequate security to the concerned nurse.
Leaders of the central executive committee of Bangladesh Nurses Association (BNA) along with hundreds of nurses serving at different hospitals in the capital formed a human chain in front of the central Shaheed Minar on Sunday afternoon.
At the human chain, BNA central executive committee president Ismat Ara Parveen condemned the probe into the sexual harassment allegation by Kuwait Maitree Hospital authority keeping the accused director Amirul Hasan on duty. She demanded immediate removal of the accused director to ensure security to the nurses of the hospital as well as to the family members of the nurses.
BNA Dhaka Medical College Hospital unit general secretary Asaduzzaman Jewel, Swadhinota Nurses Parishad secretary General Md Iqbal Hossain Sabuj, Bangladesh Diploma Students Nurses Union president Liza Akter, Bangladesh Diploma Bekar Nurses former secretary general SM Azad, BNP standing committee member Faruk Hossain, among others, attended the programme.
Speakers at the human chain also condemned the recent beating of a nurse by an intern doctor at Faridpur Medical College and Hospital, and demanded immediate trial of the misdeed.
