A separate ‘safe zone’ for the protection of women and children has been inaugurated at Laboni Point at the Cox's Bazar beach.

Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mamunur Rashid inaugurated the 800-foot-long zone at Laboni Point on the beach at 12 noon on Wednesday.

At the inauguration ceremony, the deputy commissioner said, “The administration wants women and children on the beach to be given special protection. As a result, many people in this zone will be happy and undisturbed. We are all working to make Cox's Bazar a tourist-friendly area. Maybe these small initiatives will play a bigger role in developing tourism.”

He added that women and children would be able to enter the zone with their family members. You can bathe in the sea without any hindrance. Police and beach personnel will work to secure the zone.

Cox's Bazar Zone Additional Superintendent of Police Mohiuddin Ahmed said, “Women and children are most at risk on the beach. This time the risk will be reduced. I am already working for tourists. Even if the manpower is less, we will continue to work for the safety of the tourists.”

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) of the district Rafiqul Islam said, "Such initiatives will further boost tourism."

Turning to the ground, it is seen that the administration is surrounded by a red flag from the area adjacent to the Oyster Market at Laboni Point to the end of the Urmi Restaurant 1.5 meters to the south. Signboards have been hung on both sides. Beach workers and tourist police members are miking on loudspeakers to ban single male members from entering the zone.

At that time there was not much presence of women and children members in the designated zone and in the north and south of the zone about a thousand women, children and male tourists were seen bathing and roaming the seaside.

Saima Islam, who was on an educational tour from Chittagong University at that time, said, “We came to Cox's Bazar on an educational tour with friends. Now I will go to the women's zone and my classmates will be somewhere else. What does it look like? So, we're all out of the zone together.”

Additional District Magistrate Abu Sufian, Executive Magistrate (Tourism Cell) Syed Murad Islam, President of Tour Operators Association Anwar Kamal and many others were present at the inaugural function.
