Semis without Asian team

The group stage of the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates ended on Tuesday.  Four teams have been confirmed for the last four. However, there is no Asian country in semifinals.

Although there was a possibility of India playing the semi-final game of the last season in this season as well but Pakistan did not allow it to happen. In this, after three seasons of this tournament, the last four games are going to be played without any Asian team.

Defending champions Australia will take on South Africa in the first semi-final at the Dubai International Stadium, UAE at 8 p.m. (BST) on Thursday. The second match between former champions West Indies will face off New Zealand at Sharjah Cricket Stadium at the same time on Friday. The final of the tournament will be held next Sunday.

India have played in the semi-finals in the last three editions of the Women's T20 World Cup. Among them, the final was played in 2022. However, it was not possible in the ongoing session. They had to say goodbye from the group stage. That ended the journey of the Asian teams from the group stage.

The image was last seen in 2016. However, none of the Asian teams except India have qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament so far. Out of the last 8 editions, India has played in the semi-finals in 5 editions. Among the Asian teams, Sri Lanka was the first to exit from the group stage of the current season followed by Bangladesh. Pakistan was also on the verge of exit. But India was in the most advantageous position of all. They have won two and lost one of their first three matches in the group stage. A win in the last match would have guaranteed the ticket to the semis.

Their opponent in this match was the most successful team of the tournament, Australia. Despite going close to winning against them, they lost by 9 runs.

Despite such a loss, India's luck remained with Pakistan. India would have qualified only if Pakistan beat New Zealand in the final Group A match on Monday. But it didn't happen. Maybe Harman-Mandhana saw their farewell through Pakistan's loss on the TV screen.
